WHO We Are
We are Glen Cairn United.
We are called by God to be a welcoming church where we respect differences and build Christian community as we learn, grow, celebrate, and reach out in faith.
Reverend Elaine Beattie
Rev Elaine has been the minister of Glen Cairn United Church since 2019. She hails from a small town in Scotland and had a previous career as a Registered Nurse in Glasgow. She emigrated to Canada in 1989. She studied for Ministry at McGill University in Montreal and was Ordained in 2007 with a Master of Divinity and Bachelor of Theology.
Rev. Elaine’s passion is worship, pastoral care and how we express and experience our individual spirituality. She trained as a Spiritual Director through Ontario Jubilee in 2016. Rev Elaine is especially interested in spiritual care and care of the dying and bereaved.
Each Sunday morning, Rev Elaine lights the Christ Candle at the beginning of worship to remind us that the ever present light of Christ is with us, that the light resides within us, around and among us, uplifting us, enfolding us and holding us, indeed that the light of Christ is to be found in all people and all places. That fits well with her Celtic understanding of the presence of the Divine all around as well as beyond all that we know and can imagine.
Rev. Elaine invites us to journey together as we seek to grow in our love of God, to journey together as we worship, learn and experience the Holy One in our lives.
In her spare time Rev Elaine can be found in the gym, one of her happy places or hiking. Having recently climbed the highest mountain in the United Kingdom, Ben Nevis at 4, 400 ft. She enjoys being active but is just as happy enjoying a good book.
She is married and with her husband, shares 5 children and 6 grandchildren. They are also proud puppy parents of their little Cavapoo “Bonnie”, who has been known to join the family Christmas Eve service.
Rev Elaine is in the church office Tuesday Wednesday and Friday and is always happy to meet and chat however making an appointment might be best.
